About the Opportunity
The National IT – Service Lifecycle Management department has an immediate opening for a DevOps Engineer - IT Discovery Specialist, reporting to Senior Product Manager.
We are seeking a skilled Engineer specializing in BMC Helix Discovery implementation and management. This role will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and maintaining BMC Helix Discovery environments both on-premises and in government cloud environments. We are seeking a talented Database Developer to design, develop, and optimize database solutions within our cloud infrastructure. This position is responsible for leading implementation and management of the FRS cyber security framework for the FedNow service. Lead Cyber Risk Engineer reports to Sr Cyber Risk Manager.
Key Responsibilities

Augmenting AI and automation, design and implement solutions to mature GRC function in the DevSecOps framework (e.g., Policy as Code, CI/CD pipeline compliance checks).

Lead and coordinate the implementation of security control requirements and related processes based on Federal Reserve information security framework and standards and in support of FedNow DevSecOps. This includes executing security activities based on NIST frameworks and related assessment activities for FedNow information systems.

Review and analyze cloud vendor and inherited service provider security posture, e.g., FedRAMP packages, establish control ownership, and identity control gaps and associated risk.

In coordination with various stakeholders, document and maintain a detailed data and information element matrix for system services highlighting sensitive and PII data and develop records for system security documentation including system security plans and associated security and operational processes.

What You Will Do:
- Develop conceptual, logical and physical IT engineering designs, that support the infrastructure requirements of varying levels of technical and business application projects.
- Complete analysis of business requirements, as it relates to technical infrastructure design, and ensure traceability of the design to the business requirements.

This position is considered advanced level and performs work of moderate to high complexity. The incumbent works under general supervision and may lead some efforts autonomously. This job does not have any direct reports but may lead the work of junior staff.
Your Responsibilities
- Support the ER AWS data platform
- Develop other solutions for economists using AWS services
- Serve as subject matter expert for ER Azure environment
- Act as implementation lead for new SaaS adoption
- Provide lead support for ER SaaS products
- Develop and document standard operating procedures
- Train ER IT staff on cloud products for backup purposes
- Engage with customers to identify needs and collaboratively develop new solutions
- Perform other tasks as requested
Your Background
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; most beneficial degree majors would be Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics
- 5 years of experience with 3 years of direct experience; 5 plus years of direct work experience in a similar position may serve in lieu of the degree
- Advanced level knowledge of information technology concepts and methods
- Advanced level knowledge of information security concepts and methods
- Advanced level knowledge of a cloud platform
- Creative analytic skills to provide appropriate technical solutions and strategies
- Skills identifying and managing risk, including operational and financial risk areas
- Strong communication skills are required to ensure highest level of customer service

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $145,400 and $171,900 annually in addition to annual performance-based discretionary bonuses. The Federal Reserve has developed a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the FedNow Service. This service enables financial institutions to provide their customers with the ability to send and receive payments any time, any day, and have full access to those funds within seconds. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of this mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that is transforming the payments landscape in the United States.
The position will be primarily on-site with residency commutable to one of our offices required.
Candidates may come from infrastructure/DevOps backgrounds or software engineering backgrounds (e.g., Java Python, Go) with strong interest in operating and improving reliability of distributed production systems.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer of the SRE / Production Operations team for FedNow, you will operate the production environment for the program.
You will architect, implement, and leverage solution monitoring and tooling to be used for capacity planning, utilization reporting, and scaling.
The team uses open source and proprietary software to support Engineering, DevOps, and DevSecOps tools, services, and solutions.
CI/CD and IaC Pipeline automation design and development.
Resiliency, DR and BCP (including testing)
The SRE / Production Operations team is part of the Technical Operations (TechOps) department and has the overall responsibility for the design, management and execution of operations required to support the ongoing technical and delivery needs of the FedNow Program, as well as the transition to production support and operations.
It owns ongoing ITIL processes, and the implementation and driving of continuous improvement initiatives.
The role applies both software engineering and system engineering practices to operate and improve large-scale distributed systems. You will work closely with Engineers and Architects of the FedNow program in order to maintain seamless automation across the entire platform.
Proactively identify suspected gaps in system architecture and design experiments to expose them
The ideal candidate is someone who loves building and maintaining reliable and scalable systems, CI/CD tooling, and automating cloud-based highly available, high performing applications.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $210,900. The position and job description posted is for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer however, candidates will be placed in an appropriate level within the Site Reliability Engineer job family based on the extent of their experience.
