Microsoft FastTrack delivers migration and deployment services to some of the world’s largest organizations adopting Microsoft 365. As AI reshapes how enterprise services are delivered, FastTrack must evolve from a labor‑intensive delivery model to a technology‑augmented service platform that improves migration success, increases practitioner productivity, and scales customer onboarding globally.
This Principal Group Engineering Manager - FastTrack is accountable for leading this transformation.
This role owns the engineering strategy and execution required to modernize FastTrack’s delivery model through platform investments, automation, and applied AI. You will lead the development of intelligent service capabilities that reduce manual effort in migration and deployment workflows, improve onboarding outcomes, and enable FastTrack practitioners to deliver at greater scale, quality, and speed.
Success in this role is measured not only by platform delivery, but by measurable improvements in FastTrack’s global service economics, including migration throughput, deployment success rates, practitioner productivity, onboarding cycle time, and cost‑to‑deliver.

Responsibilities
Lead Technology‑Driven Transformation of FastTrack Delivery
- Define and execute the engineering roadmap that evolves FastTrack from a people‑centric delivery model to an AI‑augmented service platform
- Develop internal platforms, automation systems, and intelligent orchestration capabilities that modernize how migrations and deployments are planned and executed
- Apply AI and data‑driven approaches to:
- Reduce migration risk
- Improve deployment predictability
- Automate onboarding workflows
- Augment practitioner decision‑making
- Improve migration outcomes and onboarding success by embedding intelligence directly into FastTrack delivery experiences
Drive Practitioner Productivity at Global Scale
- Build engineering capabilities that enable FastTrack delivery teams to serve more customers with greater consistency and reduced manual effort
- Develop copilots, automation frameworks, and decision support systems that accelerate repeatable migration and deployment tasks
- Reduce planning overhead and operational friction in migration workflows
- Enable delivery teams to execute complex onboarding engagements with improved quality and speed through technology‑assisted execution
Own Service Platform Outcomes
Accountable for engineering investments that improve:
- Migration throughput
- Time to onboard customers to Microsoft 365
- Deployment success rates
- Delivery team productivity
- Reduction in manual intervention during onboarding
- Global FastTrack capacity to support customer growth
Translate FastTrack business needs into scalable engineering solutions that improve delivery efficiency and service scalability.
Partner Across Product, Engineering, and Delivery Organizations
- Partner with Microsoft 365 Product teams to align FastTrack engineering investments with platform roadmap priorities
- Collaborate with Product and Delivery leadership to identify deployment challenges that can be solved through automation and intelligent tooling
- Work with engineering teams across Microsoft to integrate shared capabilities into FastTrack delivery platforms
- Act as a trusted technical partner to senior leaders across Product and Delivery organizations
Lead Organizational Change
- Lead the transition to new technology‑enabled delivery workflows across FastTrack
- Drive adoption of automation‑first and AI‑assisted migration practices
- Build and develop a high‑performing engineering organization focused on execution, service impact, and continuous improvement
- Establish experimentation frameworks to evaluate emerging technologies and AI approaches in real‑world onboarding scenarios

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years people management experience.
- 10+ years of experience leading engineering teams delivering large‑scale platforms or services
- Incorporate new/latest AI tech around evals, LLMs, etc).
- Experience applying automation, AI, or data‑driven systems to improve operational efficiency
- Proven track record driving organizational or delivery model transformation through technology
- Experience partnering across Product, Engineering, and Delivery organizations in complex environments
- Execution mindset with ability to translate long‑term strategy into measurable business impact

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
