Job Description:

The Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer supports the Cloud Core Engineering Team by designing and building enterprise cloud infrastructure automation, pipelines, and foundational capabilities on AWS. They’ll partner closely with application, security, and architecture Teams to deliver reusable, secure cloud infrastructure that enables business applications at scale. They’re responsible for the architecture, design, development, implementation, and ongoing operation of new and emerging cloud platforms. The Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer plays a critical role in driving transformational cloud capabilities that redefine how Southwest builds, operates, and recovers in the cloud, supporting reliability, innovation, and long‑term enterprise strategy.

Additional Details

  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in an approved remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Montana, New Jersey, New Hampshire New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming, and Puerto Rico.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate cloud services and architecture to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Implement automation tools and frameworks for automatic code deployment (CI/CD)
  • Work with the development team to deploy and manage tools that support SDLC automation, configuration management, and release management
  • Understand technical architectures with automation to support complex delivery across a wide range of digital and enterprise applications
  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of cloud infrastructure
  • Establish and/or follow procedures and standards to ensure high quality and quantity of work
  • Establish or follow prioritization processes to drive work with a sense of urgency about getting work completed
  • Consult with stakeholders to specify requirements and solutions which address business challenges and opportunities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in cloud infrastructure, performing design reviews and consulting with your teams to ensure design best practices
  • Maintain business continuity and disaster recovery processes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of AWS Infrastructure as a Service Automation tools like Cloud Formation
  • Ability to understand AWS compute, data sources, security technologies
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (IAC)
  • Skilled in deployment strategies using Docker for containerization
  • Ability to understand the monitoring and management of the build and deployment processes and infrastructure
  • Ability to analyze services to ensure security best practices are followed
  • Ability to mentor and guide team members' learning, including introducing new ideas and technologies
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and lead a team towards identifying and solving cross-domain problems

Job Description:

As a Senior Software Engineer supporting the Crew Training Systems and Architecture Team, you’ll design, build, and maintain critical systems that report to the FAA and track training status and schedules for all Southwest Pilots and Instructors. You’ll apply advanced engineering expertise to deliver functionally sound, well integrated applications that align with customer needs, organizational standards, and development methodologies. This role proactively identifies and resolves production issues across technology areas, ensuring system reliability and compliance.   • Drive the technical direction and feature roadmap of large-scale cloud systems
  • Serve as a technical lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external team members
